I am an artist and writer, currently based in Chicago. Born and raised in Colorado, I studied painting and sculpture at Kansas City Art Institute and the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia; I received an MFA in sculpture from Yale University School of Art.
I currently teach in the Contemporary Practices program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Fine Art at Columbia College Chicago. I’ve exhibited my own work, and curated the work of others, nationally and internationally. I’ve written about art and other subjects for magazines and newspapers including Artlies, Art Papers, Glasstire.com, Buddhadharma, and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, where I was gallery art critic from 2005 to 2008.
I’m also an ordained Zen priest in the Soto lineage of Eihei Dogen (1200-1252) and Shunryu Suzuki (1904-1971). I began practicing Zen and other forms of meditation some 20-odd years ago, initially inspired by encounters with artist and composer John Cage.
